Here is another quick update from the active brotherhood of the Beta Sigma chapter. This is a combined update from the president, Gabe Renna, and the alumni relations chairman, Evan Byrd.

Buggy:

Buggy will be starting up in early March once the weather cooperates. Currently the push teams are working hard in the gym and the mechanics are doing their own thing.

Greek Sing:

This year we have partnered with Delta Gamma for Greek Sing. Last time this partnership led to a 1st place trophy, so we are looking to repeat with a performance of Pitch Perfect. Rohan Saigal is leading our efforts in that department.

Social:

On January 30th, Pike threw our Great Gatsby themed party at Founders Field. Every brother who attended and his date dressed their best and enjoyed a good, safe night of fun. We decorated the venue perfectly and hired a jazz band to play for the first couple hours. We all had a great time, and the brothers and new members who volunteered to clean afterwards left the place spotless. Overall, the event was a huge success. Many pictures from the event can be found on our Facebook page.

Athletics:

Pike is doing very well in Spring intramural sports. Currently, we are playing in the Men's Competitive Basketball league. We have a record of 2-1 in the league and are looking to win another championship this year.

New Members:

We have recently finished our formal period of recruitment. The new member evening was held at an off campus cabin which in addition to giving us the needed space for the entire brotherhood, allowed some fun bonding activities such as a large snowball fight in the yard. Everyone had stories for the rest of the weekend of their perfectly thrown snowball or a close encounter they had with a thrown snowball. Unfortunately we were only able to add five members to the new class, but we are still on the lookout for a few more. The addition of Alpha Sigma Phi, and their lure of Founding Father, to campus has hampered many fraternities efforts. Nonetheless we look forward to welcoming the new members into our brotherhood once they prove themselves.

We were able to gain an additional new member to add to this semester's class. The new members are showing good potential so far. They have begun filling their blackbooks, learning about the history of the fraternity, and started fundraising. On Friday, February 13th, we will have our Big-Little event for the new members.

President's Note:

Finally, the chapter is looking for another advisor to join us. One of our advisors has had to take a leave of absence. We ask our advisors to attend chapter meeting on weekends and if possible executive council meetings during the week. The chapter values the opinions of alumni. Please contact gabe.renna29@gmail.com for more information if you are interested.

In conclusion, hope everyone is enjoying the weather, as it is beautifully snowy here in Pittsburgh.
